Published in 1929, book tells the story of the Compson family, a Mississippi clan that has fallen on hard times at the turn of the century. Narrative is told in four parts through the eyes of the family's three brothers and a servant named Dilsey. The brothers are obsessed with their sister, who was pushed out of the house for her unruly ways.
Martin Ritt directed a 1959 feature adaptation of the book for 20th Century Fox that starred Yul Brynner and Joanne Woodward.
Untitled's Jason Weinberg will exec produce the feature adaptation along with Picture Entertainment Corp.'s Lee Caplin, the executive producer of Faulkner's literary estate. Caplin exec produced "Ali," "The Lottery" and "To Die For."
Johnson recently completed HBO's "Temple Grandin," about the autistic animal scientist, and "The Lighthouse at the End of the World," an adaptation of Stephen Marlowe's novel based on the last days in the life of Edgar Allan Poe.
Untitled is also producing "Lovelace," a biopic about Linda Lovelace being exec produced by Courtney Love, and "News From the World," from writer-director Nate Goodman and exec producer Alexander Payne.
