'Wind' blows to indie IFC

Indie banner scores Cannes winner

'The Wind That Shakes the Barley'

IFC Entertainment will roll out 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley,'' starring Cillian Murphy, in the U.S.

Ken Loach's "The Wind That Shakes the Barley" -- which took the Palme d'Or earlier this year at the Cannes fest -- has been acquired for U.S. distribution by indie banner IFC Entertainment.

The tale of two Irish brothers torn apart by the anti-Brit rebellion of the '20s stars Cillian Murphy and Padraic Delaney.

Liam Cunningham and Orla Fitzgerald also star.

Pathe Pictures Intl. sold off the pic's rights.

IFC will roll out "Wind" next year through First Take Films, the day-and-date label it created to release pics simultaneously in cinemas and through its on-demand cable service.

Pic's North American preem is skedded for the upcoming Toronto film fest. It already opened in the U.K. in late June.

Previous First Take rollouts have included "Gabrielle," "Russian Dolls" and "Three Times." Program's slate encompasses 24 pics per year.

Rebecca O'Brien produced "Wind," and Ulrich Felsberg, Andrew Lowe, Nigel Thomas and Paul Trijbits exec produced. Paul Laverty penned the screenplay.
