'Friends' for festival

Gallic sci-fi novelist Bernard Werber's feature directorial debut, "Our Earthmen Friends," will open the Montreal World Film Festival as a world preem on Aug. 24, fest prexy Serge Losique said Monday.

Pic is made as a documentary from the POV of extraterrestrials looking at the strange habits of humans. Cast includes Annelise Hesme, Audrey Dana, Thomas Le Douarec and Boris Ventura.

Werber previously directed two shorts.

Pic will screen out of competition in the Montreal fest, which ends Sept. 4.
