'Curtains' helmer Scott Ellis and Kristin Chenoweth on opening night in L.A. |
Broadway alum included Jason Alexander, Kate Burton, Kristin Chenoweth, Joel Grey, Victor Garber, John Glover, Ron Rifkin, Tracey Ullman, and Julie White, not to mention the stars on stage: David Hyde Pierce, Debra Monk and Karen Ziemba.
Kander, who wrote "Chicago" and "Cabaret" with Ebb, couldn't quite express what the lyricist might think of the evening's proceedings.
"I keep thinking I'm getting notes from Fred," he said. "It's strange. I've never been through this without him."
"Curtains" is being advertised as a "new Broadway murder mystery musical comedy," and the after-party game on the Music Center plaza had guests guessing which actor was supposed to be which real-life legit producer. Some characters looked and/or acted an awfully like Chase Mishkin, David Richenthal and Barry and Fran Weissler.
Coincidence? Positively, said Monk: "They're not based on anyone."
