Stephen Sommers and his Sommers Company partner Bob Ducsay will produce. Lorey will write the script.
Book revolves around a boy who learns that bad dreams open portals which allow creatures into the world.
Lorey, whose past scripting credits include "Major Payne" and "My Boyfriend's Back," wrote the series of books initially for his children.
"The show was 16 hours a day, and then suddenly I had a lot of time on my hands," Lorey said. "After I'd written 200 pages, my son asked to read it. Next morning, the lights were on, and he said he'd stayed up all night reading it."Deal was made by William Morris based on a completed manuscript for the first book, and outlines for the second and third titles.
Sommers, who'll next direct a remake of "When Worlds Collide," is only producing the film adaptation at this point.
This week, the agency will auction the publishing rights.
