RFF helmers better by the dozen
Nascent event modeled on CineMart and PPP
Among the dozen rookies are: Argentine-born French helmer Santiago Amigorena, whose 9/11 themed "Quelques jours en Septembre," starring Juliette Binoche and John Turturro, is a Weinstein Co. pic Stateside; Spain's Inaki Arteta, maker of the docu "Thirteen Among a Thousand," on the victims of Spanish separatist terrorism; and Germany's Matthias Luthardt, whose drama "Pingpong" unspooled at Cannes in Critics Week.
Also picked are the U.K.'s Dave McKean ("MirrorMask"), Swedish helmer Joachim Heden ("New York Waiting"), Italians Luciano Melchionna ("Gas") and Giorgio Diritti ("The Wind Blows Round") and Polish helmer Anna Jadowska ("It's Me, Now").
Coming to the Rome co-production platform from the Republic of Macedonia is Sergej Stanojkovski ("Kontakt"). Dutch director Mark de Cloe and Iceland's Arni Olafur Asgeirsson round off the selection.
Rome's New Cinema Network aspires to join a global network of similar initiatives spanning from Rotterdam's CineMart to South Korea's South Pusan Promotion Project. Some 40 producers have been invited to attend the pitching sessions. Each helmer will be seeking financing for a completed script.
Variety is media partner of the RomeFilmFest, which will run Oct. 13-21.
