Reitman jumps to 'Juno'

Helmer to replace Silberling for Mandate

Brad Silberling is out and Jason Reitman is in as director of Mandate Pictures' "Juno."

Silberling bowed out due to creative differences over casting.

Reitman will keep the project on track for an early fall start. The Diablo Cody-scripted film takes a darkly humorous look at the difficult choices facing a pregnant teen.

Reitman's Hard C partner Dan Dubiecki will board the project as exec producer, joining Mason Novick and the Mr. Mudd Prods. troika of Lianne Halfon, Russell Smith and John Malkovich.

Mandate, which developed the film, will control distribution in all territories. Mandate's Joe Drake and Nathan Kahane exec produce.

Reitman cut his teeth on commercials and short films before making his feature debut with "Thank You for Smoking" at Fox Searchlight, where he and Dubiecki have made a first-look deal.
