'Fiance' engages thesps

Longoria's in 'Dead' pool

Eva Longoria, Paul Rudd and Lake Bell have signed on for "How I Met My Boyfriend's Dead Fiance" for Gold Circle Films. Pic will start lensing Aug. 24 in Hollywood, with Jeff Lowell making his directorial debut.

Lowell's script centers on a female psychic (Bell) who falls in love with a skeptic (Rudd) while the ghost of his dead fiance, played by Longoria, tries to keep them apart.

Gold Circle topper Paul Brooks is producing with Peter Safran through his shingle the Safran Co., which has a first-look pact with Gold Circle. Gold Circle's Norm Waitt and Scott Niemeyer produce.

Longoria will juggle her duties on "Dead Fiance" with her role on ABC's "Desperate Housewives." She got the go-ahead from the network to sign on for the pic by agreeing to work weekends on the film and weekdays on "Housewives." Longoria is also attached to star in "Deep in the Heart of Texas" for Disney.

Rudd is coming off Broadway's "Three Days of Rain" opposite Julia Roberts. He recently starred in "40-Year-Old Virgin" and is reteaming with that pic's helmer, Judd Apatow, on "Knocked Up" for Universal.

Bell recently wrapped "Pride and Glory" for New Line Cinema and helmer Gavin O'Connor.

A former TV writer, Lowell segued to scripting for the bigscreen with the 20th Century Fox comedy "John Tucker Must Die," in theaters Friday.
