Sound Bites: 'One' and only

Numbers don't lie for Alphabet reality skein

ABC's talent show "The One: Making A Music Star" certainly lived down to its title, barely topping a 1 demo rating and drawing just 3.1 million viewers overall.

The Alphabet hadn't pulled the plug as of late last week, but when you have a heavily promoted show come in about 40% lower than the repeat of "George Lopez" preceeding it, the writing's on the wall...

7: Number of broadcast and cable networks to outrate "One's" premiere head-to-head (Fox, NBC, CBS, Univision, Sci Fi, FX and MTV)

1.1: The show's rating among adults 18-49 (roughly 1.4 million viewers in this age group) for its July 18 premiere

1.0: The demo rating for its results-show edition on July 19

0: The number of reality programs on any broadcast net to open to a lower rating.
