Promotion is one of several that newly installed prexy Polly Cohen has authorized since taking over the top post, previously held by Mark Gill. There have also been several hires.
Lauren Craniotes recently arrived from big Warners -- Cohen's previous home -- to serve as VP of production.
In his new gig, Magedman will oversee all sales and daily operations of the theatrical distribution department. Upcoming release slate includes Michel Gondry's "The Science of Sleep," Truman Capote biopic "Infamous," Christopher Guest's "For Your Consideration" and John Curran's "The Painted Veil."
Magedman, who previously served as national sales manager, will continue reporting to exec VP of distribution Steven Friedlander. He has been with the specialty unit since its launch. Prior to that, he spent eight years at Artisan Releasing, handling sales for pics including "The Blair Witch Project" and "Buena Vista Social Club," among others.
Other recent hires at Warner Independent include newly installed director of national publicity James Lewis, formerly with mPRm.
