Michael Taylor will produce with Gold Circle topper Paul Brooks. Pic will be financed by Gold Circle and could be released by Universal through its first-look domestic distribution pact with the shingle.
"Unforgettable" centers on a married couple who are stuck in a rut when the husband is struck with an ailment that damages his short-term memory. As he struggles to adapt, the couple rediscover why they fell in love in the first place.
McGowan previously wrote and directed "Saint Ralph," about a high school boy with an ailing mother who goes on a quest to win the Boston Marathon.
"Unforgettable" originally was penned by Richard Finney, with a major rewrite by Todd Stein. McGowan will do a pass on the current draft as part of his deal.
Taylor's producing credits include "Phenomenon," "Instinct" and "Bottle Rocket," and he recently wrapped production on "Copying Beethoven," starring Ed Harris, which is expected to be released by MGM in October.
Gold Circle signed its pact with U to distribute the films it finances. Pics released under the deal include "White Noise," "Slither" and "The Wedding Date." A sequel to "White Noise" is being readied for release through Rogue Pictures, the genre arm of U's Focus Features.
