Studio has bought the film rights to the book and set it up with Basil Iwanyk's Thunder Road to produce.
Warners has the right to option the two additional books in the sci-fi, action-adventure series.
"Firestorm" revolves around a seemingly normal high school senior who finds himself at the center of an epic battle that's being fought both now and a thousand years in the future. The fate of Earth hangs in the balance.
Series has an underlying environmental theme, with "Firestorm," published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, becoming the first novel to be endorsed by Greenpeace. The second tome, "Whirlwind," will focus on rainforests, while "Timelock" will address global warming.
Klass is an author and a screenwriter. He has penned more than 30 screenplays, including "Kiss the Girls" and the "Walking Tall" remake. His 13 novels include "You Don't Know Me," which has been published in 18 languages, and "Dark Angel."
Iwanyk, who is based on the Warner lot, is producing the upcoming sports drama "We Are Marshall" for the studio.
