McShane on Par's 'Case'

Thesp joins Zellweger in '39'

"Deadwood" star Ian McShane has signed on to star opposite Rene Zellweger in "Case 39" for Paramount Pictures.

German helmer Christian Alvart is directing, with shooting scheduled to start this summer in Vancouver.

Penned by Ray Wright, story centers on a social worker (Zellweger) who saves an abused girl from her parents but later discovers things are not as they seem. McShane plays the cop who helps Zellweger's character investigate the case.

Studio-based Kevin Misher is producing with Steve Golin.

McShane will first lense "Hot Rod" for Paramount, then segue to "Case 39." He next stars in Woody Allen's "Scoop" and is part of the voice casts of DreamWorks Animation's "Kung Fu Panda" and "Shrek 3."
