'Pirates' adds more to treasure

'Chest' bulge even bigger

Turns out the pirates' treasure was bigger once Disney counted it all.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ended up breaking box office records by even more than initially thought, grossing $135.6 million for the weekend, $3.6 million more than the Mouse House's initial estimate and nearly $21 million more than the previous three-day weekend record set by "Spider-Man."

Only record "Pirates" ended up not setting was that for Saturday, as its final gross of $44.4 million came up $400,000 short of the all-time Saturday record of $44.8 million drawn by "Shrek 2."

Big question now is whether "Pirates" plundered most of its gross in one weekend or will hold well and rack up a cume north of $300 million or even $400 million.

The foreign number for "Pirates" stayed the same as Sunday's estimate of $46.6 million, though there were some variations in individual territory numbers. The U.K. gross was $25.3 million while both Australia and South Korea came in at $8.4 million. Taiwan took $1.9 million, followed by Thailand with $1.4 million, New Zealand with $1.2 million and Uruguay with $81,000.
