KARLOVY VARY -- Danny Huston, who recently wrapped a role as Orson Welles in Oliver Parker's "Fade to Black" in Italy, partied with Brit helmer John Irvin at the Karlovy Vary fest's Variety Critics' Choice: Europe Now! shindig on July 3.

Event was highlighted by the awarding of kudos to 10 up-and-coming filmmakers from around the continent. Huston and Irvin, who was in Karlovy Vary to present his gothic "The Fine Art of Love," got down with the Festival Band, comprising three fest directors named Stefan all of whom play rock guitar: Stefan Kitanov (Sofia Intl. Film Festival), Stefan Laudyn (Warsaw fest) and Stefan Uhrik (Forum of Independents in KarlovyVary).

The recognition of the 10 helmers' work traditionally forms the half-way point of the Czech Republic's biggest fest, this year expected to attract well over 10,000 attendees.

On hand were Sundance director Geoffrey Gilmore, Czech supermodel Petra Nemcova, Terry Gilliam, Michael Caton-Jones, Saffron Burrows, Hugh Dancy and Tom Wilkinson.
