Michelle Monaghan is set to star opposite Ben Stiller in "Seven Day Itch," a DreamWorks comedy inspired by "The Heartbreak Kid." Peter and Bobby Farrelly are directing.
Monaghan will play a young woman who causes a honeymooning groom to question his commitment to the woman he hastily married. The wife role is being cast; a DreamWorks spokesman denied reports that the Farrellys were planning to cast their "Shallow Hal" star Gwyneth Paltrow in the role. Actresses were reading for the role over the weekend.
"Itch," inspired by the 1972 comedy written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine May, is being produced by Conundrum Entertainment's Bradley Thomas and Radar's Ted Field. John Davis and Joe Rosenberg are exec producers.
Monaghan, who co-starred in "Mission: Impossible III," "North Country" and "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," is currently starring with Casey Affleck in "Gone, Baby, Gone," the Miramax Films adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel that marks Ben Affleck's directorial debut.
