MTV targets Koreans
New net latest to target America's ethnic youth aud

Move follows launches last year of MTV Desi, aimed at the Indian diaspora, and MTV Chi, serving bi-cultural Chinese Americans.
Programming will focus on K-pop, hip hop and punk, supplemented with live events and a splash of programming from its int'l affiliates. Service will be presented in English by bi-lingual U.S.-based VJs and guest hosts. Content will also reflect Korean creators' growing influence in movies, TV drama and fashion.
Original programs will include a chart-show "Top 10 Kountdown," "On Location," highlighting hot spots, clubs and restaurants, and "Hip Hop Seoul," focusing on the Korean hip hop scene. Package will be complemented by hourly news show "MTV News On K."
Service will be available at no additional cost to DirecTV subscribers as part of the KoreanDirect package and later on Verizon's FiOS TV.
"With the Korean pop phenomenon spreading wildly across Asia, it was only a matter of time before we created a platform for this increasingly popular and influential culture within the U.S.," MTV prexy Christina Norman said.
Company has opened a website allowing fans to vote for MTV K's first video. Show will be hosted by MTV News established correspondent SuChin Pak.
