Disney has postponed the start of its gridiron comedy "The Game Plan," after Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson ruptured his Achilles tendon rehearsing for his role as a pro quarterback.

Johnson will undergo surgery Friday in Miami, and the film is postponed until he heals. He's no stranger to the football field, having played on a Miami Hurricanes team that won the National Championship, and done a brief stint in the Canadian Football League before he turned to pro wrestling.

"My injury, while serious, is unfortunately common with this type of activity. I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support that I have received from Disney and all those involved with this film," Johnson said in a statement.
