IFP lauds 2929 partners

Honor will be handed out at Chelsea Piers

Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban, partners in 2929 Entertainment, have been tapped to receive a Gotham Award at the IFP's 16th annual fund-raising shindig Nov. 29.

Honor will be handed out at Chelsea Piers alongside six competish awards.

IFP exec director Michelle Byrd said the 2929 masterminds will be honored because they are "proven leaders in cutting-edge technology."

"They are visionaries who have introduced exciting and new distribution models," she added, "and who continue to showcase tremendous diversity in the films they produce, release and exhibit."

Through their various film distribution, production and exhib arms under 2929 -- as well as cable nets HDNet and HDNet Movies -- Cuban and Wagner have been pushing a biz model that compresses distribution windows to roll out some indie pics via various platforms at the same time.

Credits under the plan have included Steven Soderbergh's experimental "Bubble" as well as the docu "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room."

HDNet Films, Magnolia Pictures and the Landmark Theaters cinema chain all come under the 2929 umbrella.

Gotham Awards have previously been presented to Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Ang Lee and Matt Dillon.

Nominees in the Gotham's competish categories will be announced Oct. 23.
