The flying crusader hits Indian screens Friday -- a week before Hollywood's "Superman Returns" debuts here.
The movie, helmed and produced by Rakesh Roshan, breaks the Bollywood mold of love stories, comedies and tragedies with its lavish special effects and stunts.
The 450 million rupees ($10 million) pic, a big budget by local standards, is the sequel (another Bollywood first) to the 2003 hit "Koi ... mil gaya" (I Found Someone), based loosely on Steven Spielberg's "E.T."
Krrish, played by Roshan's son Hrithik, inherits supernatural powers from an alien visitor and becomes a crimefighter in Singapore, where the film was partially shot.
Rakesh Roshan said he hasn't copied Superman -- something Bollywood is often accused of -- but he wants to challenge Hollywood's superheroes.
"As there is Batman, Spider-Man and Superman, in the same way I have created a superhero character. I want to prove to the world that Bollywood is no less than Hollywood," he said.
In fact, Krrish appears more like a mix between Batman and Keanu Reeves' black-leather coated Neo in "The Matrix" trilogy.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh expects a good opening weekend.
"Bollywood audiences have not seen such a film, and much excitement has built up for 'Krrish,' " he said.
