He'll report directly to SKE prexy Jim Tauber.
Kristol will oversee all theatrical marketing and distribution campaigns for pics released by MGM, as well as for those Kimmel produces with studio partners. He'll do the same for homevid titles.
SKE's MGM slate will bow April 4 with the preem of dark comedy "Charlie Bartlett," followed by Frank Oz's "Death at a Funeral" on April 27.
While SKE will rely on the Lion's marketing and publicity teams to some degree, Kristol said Kimmel would do the strategic planning for the various marketing campaigns. To that end, he intends to hire an inhouse publicity chief and creative advertising exec.
Most recently, Kristol served as chief operating officer of TNS-Media Intelligence Entertainment Services Group, helping with the firm's expansion into cinema advertising, consumer polling and nontheatrical marketing intelligence. Before that, he spent nearly a decade at Universal, rising to exec VP of the Motion Picture Group, after helping develop the business plan for the launch of U specialty arm Focus Features.
Upcoming SKE films include "Trust the Man," which Fox Searchlight will release later this summer, and "Alpha Dog," now set up at Universal.
