First co-production is a series of high-definition documentaries on Marco Polo and the Great Wall, slated to be ready in time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Lucas Chow, group CEO of MediaCorp, said, "We saw that there was a shortage of good Asian documentaries for the international market, so we have embarked on this multimillion-dollar production with a view of distributing it internationally, in line with MediaCorp's vision of expanding our content distribution outside of Singapore."
Saga Pictures is owned by Jonathan Finnigan and National Geographic photojournalist Michael Yamashita. Finnigan said, "Both Marco Polo and the Great Wall are very exciting stories, and we believe they will make exceptional films. This co-production deal makes these projects a reality. Given our different skill sets and similar vision for the future, we believe this will be the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership."
Following Marco Polo, the world's greatest adventurer, will take the crew across 15 countries and more than 10,000 miles, while the documentary on the Great Wall will cover 4,000 miles from one end of the wall to the other.
