Sexta teaming on telenovelas

Televisa, Globomedia team on Spanish soap

Spanish web La Sexta is filming its first telenovela with two of the most successful producers of long-running series in the Spanish-speaking world: Mexico telenovela titan Televisa and Arbol's Madrid-based production house Globomedia.

"SMS: sin miedo a sonar" (literally "SMS: Without Fear to Dream") is a youth-skewed telenovela with a strong musical element that follows a rebellious, reform-school teen who is sent to an elite prep school.

Raul Pena stars as the rebel who falls in love with a rich girl (Amaia Salamanca) amid the subplot of a high school murder.

Show will bow in July after the end of the soccer World Cup, to which La Sexta bought exclusive free-to-air rights in Spain.

"SMS" is produced by Daniel Ecija, a partner and board member of Arbol-Mediapro, and one of Spain's top TV producers whose credits include hit series "The Serranos."

Televisa heavyweight producer Salvador Mejia is consulting on the project, which is co-produced by Globomedia's Ernesto Pozuelo and Carmen Ortiz.
