Roger Spottiswoode is directing the film, which is set to begin lensing in June in Kigali, Rwanda. The production then will head to Montreal in August to shoot scenes focusing on Dallaire's return to his home province of Quebec after the Rwandan genocide.
Dallaire's book is based on his experience as the head of the ill-fated U.N. peacekeeping mission in Rwanda in 1994. Dallaire was in charge of a peace-keeping force that could do little to stop the genocide that claimed the lives of more than 800,000 Rwandans.
Canuck production is produced by Laszlo Barna ("Da Vinci's Inquest") and Michael Donovan ("Bowling for Columbine").
"Shake Hands With the Devil" will be distributed in Canada by Montreal-based Seville Pictures.
Dupuis's credits include the title role in Maurice Richard biopic "The Rocket" and TV series "Nikita."
A Quebec pic about the Rwandan genocide is the top box office performer in the province so far this year. Montreal-based distributor Equinoxe Films said Monday that French-language drama "A Sunday in Kigali," starring Luc Picard as a burned-out Quebec journalist in Rwanda at the time of the genocide, has just passed the C$1 million ($903,000) mark at the box office here.
