Spike's sold on Fox thriller

'Man' helmer to do rewrite with an eye toward directing it

Spike Lee has made a deal to rewrite "Selling Time," a supernatural thriller for 20th Century Fox. John Davis and Jennifer Klein will produce.

Lee, who most recently directed the hit "Inside Man," hasn't yet chosen his next film. He'll write "Selling Time" with an eye toward directing it.

Story concerns a man who sells chunks of his life in an attempt to relive and change the worst day of his life.

Fox 2000 originally bought the project as a spec script by Dan McDermott while he was president of DreamWorks Television in 2001.

"Selling Time" has been killing time in several previous incarnations through Davis Entertainment. Pic had once been developed as a directing project for Forest Whitaker, and Will Smith once flirted with the starring role.

"Selling Time" shifted from Fox 2000 to 20th when supervising exec Peter Kang switched division labels.
