Set in 1978, "Gracie" tells the story of a teenage girl who fights to play on the boys' varsity soccer team after her brother, a soccer champion, dies. In the process, she wins the right for girls everywhere to play.
Andrew Shue, Elisabeth Shue's brother, also will star in the feature, while Carly Schroeder ("Firewall," "Mean Creek") has been cast to play the girl.
Brother-and-sister acting duo are producing the pic with Guggenheim and Elevation Filmworks' Lemore Syvan. Initial Entertainment Group topper Graham King is exec producing.
Lensing is skedded to begin at the end of the summer in New Jersey. IEG Virtual Studios, an affiliate of King's IEG, is repping international distrib rights at Cannes.
"Telling this story is very personal for us, but we know it has great life lessons and the chance to change minds and stir passions," said Andrew Shue, who will play the soccer coach.
Elisabeth Shue, who will play the mother, was most recently in "Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story," "Hide and Seek" and "Mysterious Skin."
Guggenheim's global-warming docu "Inconvenient Truth," which is screening out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, will be released in theaters by Paramount Classics.
Picturehouse's upcoming slate includes Diane Arbus biopic "Fur" and Robert Altman's "A Prairie Home Companion."
