WHAT: The May 8 screening for "Bringing Balanchine Back" hosted by the New York City Ballet and choreographer and org's balletmaster in chief Peter Martins.

WHERE: Gotham's the Joan Weill Center for Dance

LAST-MINUTE DECISION: Pic, which follows the New York City Ballet's historic visit to St. Petersburg, the birthplace of George Balanchine, almost didn't happen.

"At the last moment Peter (Martins) thought it would be very worthwhile to document this historic trip," co-producer Earle Mack said at the dinner party following the screening. "He called me and said, 'We only have three weeks before we go.' And I said, 'Oh my god.' I knew we had a short time to pull the best team together. So under Peter's leadership we quickly compiled a great team of people, including the film's narrator Kevin Kline, and with incredible speed we put (the film) together."
