Poster shingle taps exec

Schumaecker to head development for Superb

Kate Schumaecker has been tapped to head up development for Superb Entertainment, Meryl Poster's NBC U-based film and TV shingle.

In addition, company is moving forward with its first TV project at NBC U TV Studios, optioning the rights to Valerie Ann Leff's 2004 novel "Better Homes and Husbands." Becky Mode ("Fully Committed") is writing the script, with Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett ("Little Manhattan," "Wimbeldon") on board as exec producers.

Original novel revolved around the residents of a tony Gotham co-op, following their lives from the 1970s through the present day.

Schumaecker was most recently director of development for Bob Balaban's Chicagofilms shingle. During her four-year run at that company, she worked on such projects as Court TV's "The Exonerated," "Hopeless Pictures" and "Bernard and Doris." Beyond her work at Chicagofilm, Schumaecker produced short films and Off Off Broadway plays for the Lynx Theater Company.

At Superb, Schumaecker will develop both film and TV projects.

"Kate is smart and dynamic -- two characteristics that certainly lead to success in this business," Poster said.

Poster inked a first-look deal with NUTS and Universal Films last year (Daily Variety, Nov. 29). The former Miramax production co-prexy also serves as a consultant to NBC U TV Group topper Jeff Zucker.
