Drimtim makes 'Clean Break'

Tara Reid heads cast

MADRID — Barcelona-based Drimtim has initiated principal photography on its fifth English-lingo made-for, "Clean Break," toplining Tara Reid ("Incubus," "American Pie"), Colm Meaney ("Layer Cake," "Star Trek"), Angus MacFadyen ("Alias," "Fatwa") and George Wendt ("Cheers," "My Dinner with Jimi").

Key cast includes Spanish thesps Ferran Garrido and Lorena Bernal.

"Clean Break" is a dramatic thriller about a couple who own an advertising agency. The husband apparently commits suicide, but the police and the insurance company decide to investigate his death.

Budgeted at Euros 2.5 million ($3.2 million), pic is coproduced by Spanish commercial broadcaster Antena 3 and Catalan pubcaster TVC. Sony Pictures Television International will handle international rights.

Underscoring a stable financing formula, the same partners teamed on Drimtim's first four made-fors: "Face of Terror" (with Ricky Schroeder and Eric Balfour), "Art Heist" (toplining Will Baldwin and Ellen Pompeo), "Crusader" (Bo Derek and Michael York) and "The Deal" (Penelope Ann Miller and Dean Stockwell).

Bryan Goeres helmed all four, including action sequences rare for Spain.

"Clean Break" is the first pic helmed by Rob Malenfant ("Facing the Enemy," "Blind Obsession"), who has played down action, attempting deeper plot and character development and greater suspense.

"We aim to make international quality TV entertainment with ample resources, using American know-how and production models, and getting the maximum out of Spanish talent," Drimtim prexy Manel Corbi told Daily Variety.
