CW topper Dawn Ostroff will lead the net through its first pilot screening process -- but since the web's new Burbank HQ isn't ready yet, she first had to find a place to hold the screenings.
Ostroff's solution: A location on the Warner Bros. lot where the soon-to-be-extinct WB has held its screenings in past years. Ostroff chose the locale even though it meant a long schlep from her current UPN offices in Brentwood.
Execs will spend the day watching all of the comedy and drama pilots up for the precious few open spots on the CW sked. Despite early industry concerns that the CW would simply be a buyer of shows from network co-owners CBS and Warner Bros., it turns out the CW's pilot selections came from all the major suppliers.
In addition to entries from WBTV and CBS Par Network TV, CW execs will be considering pilots from NBC Universal, Sony, Touchstone, 20th Century Fox TV and even indie Lionsgate.
What's not clear is whether execs will also look at episodes of WB and UPN shows on the bubble for migrating to the CW, such as "Veronica Mars" and "One Tree Hill."
But there's one skein that definitely won't be screened: "7th Heaven." Despite reports the network was considering reversing its decision to end the WB show, insiders now confirm that this month's finale will in fact rep the show's final curtain. There are no plans for a spinoff, either.
A CW rep declined comment.
