WB corrals thesp for 'Rodeo' pic

Roberts is Warner's 'Gal'

Warner Bros. and producer Jerry Weintraub have lassoed the Katie Wech-scripted spec "Rodeo Gal," which they will quickly fashion into a star vehicle for Emma Roberts.

Roberts, the niece of Julia Roberts, just completed the title role in the Andy Fleming-directed "Nancy Drew" for the studio and producer.

Roberts will play the title character, a debutante equestrian who falls for a cowboy. Circumstances lead her to enter the rodeo.

Project will possibly be the 15-year-old's next pic. She got her start on the Nickelodeon series "Unfabulous" and recently starred in "Aquamarine."

Script was the first sale for Wech, a writer's assistant on the Fox drama "Prison Break." She will rewrite and tailor the romantic comedy for Roberts.

"This is material kids haven't seen, a marriage between the elegant equestrian world and the rough rodeo, with all the conflicts," said Weintraub, who put the package together with prexy Rob Guralnick.
