'Tsotsi' man tops CIA pic

New 'Rendition' for New Line

New Line is fast-tracking development of Middle East political thriller "Rendition," with Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi") directing and Steve Golin producing through his Anonymous Content banner.

Mini-major, which closed the deal for tyro scribe Kelley Sane's spec on Friday, is aiming for a fall production start. David Kanter, Keith Redmon and Michael Sugar will exec produce.

Multilayered story centers on a CIA analyst based in Cairo who finds his world spinning out of control after he witnesses the interrogation of a foreign national by the Egyptian secret police.

"Tsotsi," an adaptation of playwright Athol Fugard's novel about a South African street hood who cares for a baby, won this year's Oscar for foreign-language film.

"Rendition" was developed at Anonymous, which manages Hood and Sane. Golin's a producer with John Kilik on "Babel," with Kevin Misher on "Case 39" and with Kanter on "In the Land of Women."
