It's the first activity the project has seen in several years. In 2002, Warners tapped John Glenn and Travis Adam Wright to pen the script.
Beacham said he is writing a new script, and that he intends the redo to be darker and more realistic than MGM's "Clash." Storyline will still revolve around Perseus' journey to save the Princess Andromeda, during which he must complete various tasks set out by Zeus, including capturing Pegasus and slaying Medusa.
Original marked the final film on which Ray Harryhausen did special effects, as well as the last in a string of pics he produced with Charles Schneer.
The 1981 "Clash" featured a high-profile cast including Laurence Olivier, Claire Bloom, Maggie Smith, Ursula Andress, Jack Gwillim and Burgess Meredith. A young Harry Hamlin starred as Perseus.
"I'll keep the big mythological feel. That's what I totally loved about it when I saw it as a kid," Beacham said.
Beacham made his first studio sale last fall when New Line preemptively snapped up his spec script "Killing on Carnival Row," a sci-fi thriller.
Iwaynk, who is based on the Warners lot, last produced "Firewall." He's currently shooting sports drama "We Are Marshall" for the studio.
