O'Donnell moves into 'View'

Vieira's replacement confirmed

Starting in September, Rosie O'Donnell will be the newest co-host of ABC's "The View."

Barbara Walters confirmed the appointment during the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Friday night at the Kodak Theater putting an end to the rumors that surrounded the show's empty seat.

"We are thrilled that Rosie, one of the greatest stars in the history of daytime television, has agreed to join us on 'The View'," Walters said.

"I was touched and honored when Barbara asked me. She paved the way for all women in television, and I can't wait for September," O'Donnell said.

Walters approached O'Donnell during the preem of the comedian's docu on her gay family cruiseline. O'Donnell accepted immediately.

"If she asked me to anything, I would say "yes." Good thing she asked me to do "The View, not her laundry," O'Donnell joked.

O'Donnell replaces co-host Meredith Vieira who has been with the show since its inception nine years ago and will also step-in as the shows moderator.

Vieira moves to NBC's "Today Show" as Katie Couric's replacement while Couric jumps to CBS' evening new broadcast.

O'Donnell had hosted and executive produced "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" which aired for six seasons and won a dozen Daytime Emmy Awards.
