'Infamous' to roll despite overlapping with 'Capote'
Warner Independent Pictures has set Oct. 13 for release of its Truman Capote biopic "Infamous" -- which covers the same period in the literary lion's life that Sony's awards-grabber "Capote" did.
In other words, it's back to Kansas.
Many wondered whether WIP would drop its project, given the overlap of the two pics, but Killer Films, which is producing "Infamous" for the specialty arm, actually began shooting after "Capote" wrapped.
Ironically, "Capote" may have done some of the legwork for "Infamous" by reigniting interest in the iconic author. The question now is whether moviegoers will have had their fill.
The core action of "Infamous" is the same as "Capote," namely his trek to Kansas after the murder of the Clutter family and his controversial relationship with killers Dick Hickock and Perry Smith.Those familiar with "Infamous" say the film is warmer and bigger than "Capote," with more humor. It also shows more of Capote's legendary social life in New York, including a glimpse of his "swans": Babe Paley, Gloria Guinness and Lee Radziwill.
"Infamous," based on George Plimpton's 1977 oral biography, sports a heavyweight cast, including Sandra Bullock, Daniel Craig, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sigourney Weaver and Jeff Daniels.
And while "Capote" star Philip Seymour Hoffman may have picked up an Oscar for his perf, "Infamous" does have a potential trump card: Topliner Toby Jones is a dead ringer for the real-life Capote.
