'Blackbird' is flying to MTC

'Tale' team reunited for Harrower preem

The reteaming of scribe Charles Busch and helmer Lynne Meadow ("The Tale of the Allergist's Wife") and the U.S. preem of David Harrower's "Blackbird" are among the offerings from Manhattan Theater Club for its 2006-07 season.

Busch and Meadow, whose hit "Allergist's Wife" ran for two years on Broadway, will work together again on "Our Leading Lady," Busch's new play about 19th century thesp Laura Keane preparing to perform at Ford's Theater on the night Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Show will open Dec. 19 at MTC's Stage II at City Center.

"Blackbird," a buzz-magnet in London earlier this year, will bow on Stage I in March. Script follows an office worker in his 50s who is visited by a former lover from 15 years ago -- who was 12 at the time of their relationship.

The Biltmore, MTC's Broadway venue, will house Simon Mendes da Costa's "Losing Louie" in September. The comedy, another U.S. preem of a well-reviewed London offering, chronicles two generations grappling with family issues in the same bedroom, 50 years apart. Jerry Zaks directs the show, which opens Oct. 12.

The theater's second announced Rialto offering is "The Country Girl" by Clifford Odets, also directed by Meadow. Show, about a faded theater star offered a big part, starts previews in April 2007 for a May 3 opening.

Paul Rudnick's latest, "Regrets Only," bows on Stage I in October. Christopher Ashley helms the comedy about the Manhattan elite.

Two more productions, one at the Biltmore and one at City Center, have yet to be announced.
