Indian pols call for pic boycott

'Fanaa' thesps under fire for protest

MUMBAI -- Gujurati politicos are calling for a boycott of thesp Aamir Khan's movie "Fanaa," which Yash Raj Films plans to release in May, and for a boycott of products Khan endorses.

Pols were ticked off because Khan and fellow thesps Atul Kulkarni and Kunal Kapoor protested against the building of a dam across the Narmada River. Although others also have protested, Khan's move enraged the fundamentalist Hindu Indian People's Party and the ruling secular Congress party.

Khan's current UTV release, "Rang de Basanti," also was removed from some theaters in the western Indian state and an effigy of the actor was burned.
