Warner Bros. Pictures has tapped Oscar-winning docu director Kevin Macdonald to helm "28th Amendment," voting to give new life to the long-gestating political thriller. Basil Iwanyk's Thunder Road and Richard Donner will produce.
Story revolves around a young U.S. president who discovers the existence of a secret cabal that runs the government and wants him dead.
Studio, which bought up Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci's spec in 1999, is now out to writers.
Scottish-born Macdonald took home the 2000 Oscar for best docu for "One Day in September," which followed the tragic events of the Israeli athletes killed during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. More recently, his docudrama "Touching the Void" picked up British film nods from BAFTA and the British Independent Film Awards.
Macdonald's foray into features led him to direct Fox Searchlight's upcoming "The Last King of Scotland," based on the life of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin and starring Forest Whitaker and James McAvoy.
Iwanyk, who is based on the Warners lot, most recently produced "Firewall" for the studio and is currently shooting sports drama "We Are Marshall."
