Gibson will star in and produce the pic, about two friends in conflict, through his HQ Pictures banner.
Deal was made by Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper. Model-turned-rapper-turned-actor previously sold the pitches "D.A. Verdict" to MGM and "Extortion" to Universal but was too busy to pen the scripts. When neither turned out as he'd envisioned, Gibson invested the time to write "To Each His Own."
He plans to eventually rewrite "Extortion," a project in which he still hopes to star.
Gibson got bit by the writing bug while in Africa shooting "Flight of the Phoenix."
"My own interest was borne out of the frustration of watching white and Latino guys write these urban movies that had no genuine (ear) for the dialogue," Gibson said.Gibson established HQ, made his assistant Mike Le his vice president and hopes to continue crafting his own vehicles.
Gibson appears in the Rogue release "Waist Deep," opening in June.
