BVI Japan locks up $85.5 mil in 3 mos.

'Narnia,' 'Chicken Little,' 'Geisha' help set records

TOKYO -- Buena Vista Intl. Japan has taken ¥10 billion ($85.5 million) at the box office in the first three months of this year, almost half of the record $177.8 million taken in 2004.

Among the films driving results are "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" (which has taken $42.7 million and is expected to sail past $171 million), "Chicken Little," "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Flight Plan."

Still to come are "Cars" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."
