Morgan Creek has purchased Ron Shelton and John Norville's spec "Our Lady of the Ballpark," with Shelton attached to direct.
"Ballpark" centers on a slumping, egotistical New York Yankees pitcher who tries to resurrect his career in the comically corrupt Mexican Baseball League. A production start date is planned for early fall.
Shelton -- who played five seasons in the Baltimore Orioles farm system -- wrote and directed "Bull Durham," "White Men Can't Jump," and "Tin Cup," which he co-wrote with Norville.
James G. Robinson will produce "Ballpark." Guy McElwaine and David Robinson exec produce.
Morgan Creek recently wrapped Robert De Niro's "The Good Shepherd," starring Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, as well as Barry Levinson's "Man of the Year," starring Robin Williams. Universal-based production company is also prepping "Touchback," with David Nutter helming.
