
'Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx Is Burning'
ESPN Original Entertainment will develop a scripted docudrama based on Jonathan Mahler's bestseller "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx Is Burning."
Eight-episode skein will focus on the triumph of the New York Yankees in the 1977 World Series at a time when the city was rocked by a blackout, a bitter mayoral race and the hunt for the Son of Sam.
Show will preem on ESPN in July 2007, skedded to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Yankees' first World Series under owner George Steinbrenner. Net also intends to make the content available over a range of platforms, including a special edition DVD, boosted by extras from the library of Major League Baseball Prods.
Series will be co-exec produced by Mike Tollin and Brian Robbins ("Smallville," "Coach Carter") and written by producer-scribe James D. Solomon ("Mambo Kings").
