Chris Murphey is writing the script. Scott Stuber and Mary Parent will produce with Bruce Nash. Robert Kosberg will exec produce.
Residents of a small town have discovered that playing ball has kept them from dying. A 12-year-old boy tempts the devil by wagering his soul in a winner-take-all game between townsfolk and the devil's ringers.
"The timeless nature of the sport lent itself to a story about a town that is stuck in 1940," said Nash, a reality TV producer who's transitioning to features.
Stuber and Parent snapped it up preemptively through their development fund.
Murphey is writing for Touchstone and LivePlanet an untitled film that will star Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as Philadelphia corporate lawyers who attempt to overturn a murder conviction. Murphey also wrote "Conrail," a Contrafilm-produced drama at New Line. Murphey got the "Time of Their Lives" job off an early unmade film he wrote about baseball.
