Melisa Wallack wrote the script and will direct the film with her husband, veteran producer Bernie Goldmann. Pic, which marks the directing debut for both, will start production in May, shooting in upstate New York.
Eckhart plays a man fed up with his job and marriage who bottoms out when he catches his wife cheating. He finds a catalyst for a resurgence when he reluctantly mentors an unruly teen.
Wallack co-wrote "The Dallas Buyers Club," which Marc Forster is attached to direct at Universal with Brad Pitt starring. She recently sold an untitled spec to U, which Goldmann, Paul and Chris Weitz will produce with her.
Eckhart stars in current release "Thank You for Smoking" and is shooting the Scott Hicks-directed remake of "Mostly Martha" opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones at Warner Bros. He most recently wrapped Brian De Palma's "The Black Dahlia," which Universal will release Sept. 15.
