Gallic protests don't mar mart

One-day nationwide strike doesn't upset fest

Another kind of unscripted, if staged, reality fare went almost unnoticed at the Mip TV mart on Tuesday -- France's one-day nationwide strike against new labor laws.

The mayor of Cannes refused to allow a protest march to pass the Palais du Festival doors.

Taxis worked "out of respect for the convention," said Didier Stofati, head of the Cannes taxi owners union. Restaurants, hotels and shops remained staffed.

A clutch of police mooched around outside the Palais main entrance with nothing to do for most of the time.

Mip TV participants were far busier, advancing deals, grooming clients and presenting new product.
