Perris
Syndication and TV station vet Alan Perris has been named the new full-time leader at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Perris will join ATAS on April 10 as chief operating officer, the org's top salaried position. TV Acad chairman-CEO Dick Askin made the announcement Monday.
Perris fills the void left by former Academy president Todd Leavitt, who announced his departure last September. As part of the transition, org renamed the position chief operating officer, dropping the "president" title.
Perris will oversee the TV Acad's staff and handling the org's day-to-day activities. He'll also work closely with the elected Academy body, including topper Askin, as well as Academy Foundation chairman Steve Mosko.
Askin said Perris was selected for the job "after a comprehensive search and review process."
Perris' resume includes stints as president of production at the Scripps-Howard and Post-Newsweek station groups; he was also senior VP of firstrun programming in separate stints at Telepictures and Sony. He also served as senior VP of programming at the Hallmark Channel, as well as president-general manager at Miami stations WPLG and WTVJ and Jacksonville outlet WJXT.
