Planned as a trilogy, "Jumper" is the next project for the creative team behind Regency's summer hit "Mr. and Mrs. Smith": helmer Doug Liman and producers Lucas Foster and Simon Kinberg.
Based on a 1992 novel by Steven Gould, screenplay is being kept under wraps. Jim Uhls is rewriting an adaptation by David Goyer.
Original book followed a 17-year-old boy (Sturridge) who discovers he has the ability to teleport. He first uses his special power to escape his abusive father, and then puts his ability to use robbing banks before becoming entangled with terrorists and law enforcement.
Arnon Milchan's Regency is fully financing the pic, with lensing set to get under way this spring in Montreal. Also on board as producer is Jay Sanders, with Ralph Vicinanza and Vince Gerardis exec producing.
Sturridge has appeared in Sony Classics' "Being Julia" as well as Focus Features' "Vanity Fair."
Palmer will star in Sony's "The Grudge 2," set for release this fall. She also will appear this year in "Faith," "December Boys" and "237."
Bell starred in "Billy Elliot" for Working Title and Focus and most recently appeared in Universal's "King Kong." He's also set to appear in Clint Eastwood's DreamWorks warpic "Flags of Our Fathers."
