Mexico's biggest independent distrib Gussi has launched a video sales operation in the U.S. to market Spanish-language films.
Video arm Distrimax, put out "Conejo en la luna" in mid-March and will follow in May with "Amar te duele" and "Matando cabos" in July.
Gussi will release around 45 films in theaters this year locally, and Distrimax will put out 100 titles in Mexico. Gussi outpaced Sony at the B.O. several months last year.
Gussi, which has an output deal with New Line, has been ramping up the Mexican films it releases theatrically with over a dozen set for this year and next, including "Bienvenido paisano," directed by Rafael Villasenor Kuri, and Fernando Sarinana's "Motocross."
