'Soap' afloat at Strand

Distrib cleans up N. American rights to Christensen pic

'A Soap'

Strand will release Danish pic 'A Soap,' from Pernille Fischer Christensen, this spring.

NEW YORK -- Indie distrib Strand Releasing has lathered up a deal for North American rights to "A Soap," the debut feature by Denmark-based helmer Pernille Fischer Christensen. Pact closed just as the pic was making its U.S. preem Saturday at the New Directors/New Films fest in Gotham.

Movie follows an emotionally confused woman (Trine Dyrholm) who becomes fascinated by her young, pre-op transsexual neighbor (David Dencik).

Lars Bredo Rahbek of Nimbus Film produced in association with Zentropa.

Rights were repped by Trust Film.

Deal marks a reteaming between Los Angeles-based Strand and Nimbus: Strand previously rolled out the production label's "It's All About Love," by Thomas Vinterberg, as well as Lukas Moodysson's "Show Me Love."

Strand is headed by Marcus Hu and Jon Gerrans. The duo said they will open "Soap" this spring.
