LONDON -- Tyro helmer Alexander Hahn's "Midsummer Madness," a $3.25 million comedy co-penned by "Carry On" veteran scribe Norman Hudis and Alexander Mahler, started principal photography at the weekend.
Co-produced by Austria's Fischer Film, Blighty's Steve Walsh Prods. and Latvia's Kaupo Filma, pic will shoot entirely in Latvia.
Cast includes Gaul's Dominique Pinon ("A Very Long Engagement"), Portuguese Maria de Medeiros ("The Saddest Music in the World"), Austrian TV heartthrob Tobias Moretti and German thesp-helmer Detlev Buck as people caught up in Latvia's raunchy summer solstice celebrations, the shortest night of the year.
Developed with coin from the Media Slate Funding, "Midsummer Madness" is backed by the Austrian Film Institute, the Austrian Broadcasting Corp., the Vienna Film Fund, State of Upper Austria, the National Film Center of Latvia, London-based Ingenious Media and Eurimage. EastWest Filmdistribution are handling international sales.
